About 1 year ago a young woman named Maria Teresa Lomeli lost her life in a house fire in La Ribera, BCS Mexico. That's how this began. Part time-resident, and retired fire captain, Steve Alcorn had been aware of the lack of local professional fire response for his adopted community of La Ribera. But this was different. This wasn't a palm tree fire. As Steve has stated: “The occasional wildland-palm tree fires were met by local town folks in levi’s and water trucks and were mitigated without serious incident.” Stephen Alcorn - President Bomberos Voluntarios Cabo Este This wasn't that. This time a woman died. A family, that made their life in the rural community of La Ribera, now without home, now without Maria, had a hole punched through it that could never be filled. All because fire rescue was over an hour away. Clearly there is a better way. Steve created a campaign to raise money, equipment and awareness for the cause of building a fully qualified volunteer fire department in La Ribera, BCS. A year later, the Bomberos Voluntarios Cabo Este are protecting the vulnerable communities of Cabo Este, like La Ribera. Under Steve's leadership and guidance, we are building something truly amazing, and these beautiful communities can sleep a little easier. We do this for these people, we do this for Maria. We can't do this without you.
